the show.
In Those Genes is the only narrative science podcast where genetics and Black culture come together to tell the stories carried in our DNA.
Born from a Spotify Sound Up cohort and hosted by geneticist Dr. Janina Jeff Ringo, the show uses genetics, history, and hip-hop to decode the lost and living stories of African-descended people — from ancestry and identity to reproduction and the future of Black health. It’s a Black-women-led independent production, made by a team of Black folks and LGBTQ+ creatives, with every scientific and sociological expert we feature drawn from our own community.
